Ultra-secure data centre for your stored backups Data that is backed up is sent to the most secure data centre in the UK. Our facilities are located in a converted MOD bunker, with the highest levels of security and resilience. The Data Centre is an armoured, nuclear-proof, military grade unit housed 30 metres below ground.
Backs up online all types of files All file types can be backed up by our remote backup software. Files that may be in constant use such as Exchange mailbox files, outlook .PST files and database files (MSSQL, MySQL, MS Access etc)
Can be used on PC’s Laptops and servers alike Any system running Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, SCO Unix, AIX can run our backup software. In an office environment it is recommended to run the software on one server and all users back their data up to a share on the server.
High levels of compression for backup data All data that is backed up to our data centre via our online backup process is compressed before upload so that bandwidth is not wasted. Previously compressed files such as .ZIP and .JPG cannot be compressed more than they are already, but in a normal mixed file scenario compression ratios are around 2:1.
Encryption levels to ensure the security of the data when it is sent to the backup server Encryption is currently at 128bit, which is the level for financial organisations. The backup data itself encrypts with (AES, TripleDES, TwoFish) symmetric key encryption.
Backup traffic is encrypted with 1024bit RSA public key encryption.
Incremental or differential backups result in only changed data being backed up online Once the first backup has been completed, all subsequent online backups can be set to incremental or differential. Only changed files will be backed up during each backup routine reducing the time that the backup process takes. Full backups can also be scheduled at appropriate times, (e.g. Sundays, 1st of the month etc)
In-file delta technology for large database or email mailbox files In-File Delta technology has allowed remote backup to become more viable for small/medium sized businesses. In file Delta allows large database/mailbox files to be differentially backed up. Eg: a 10Gb SQL database file will only need to be fully backed up once. All subsequent backups will only backup the changed portion of the file. This is due to the In-file delta technology.
Less user management required Traditional tape based systems require constant rotation of tapes and re-labelling of tapes or other rewritable media. A typical cycle is to rotate tapes daily with 1 set being taken offsite every night to ensure that in the event of a disaster, (Robbery, flood etc) data can be restored. With remote backup, data is always backed up offsite, so you have no tape rotation system to organise and you can be sure, that in the event of a disaster, you can restore your most recent data immediately.
In the event of a failed backup process due to hardware or software failures an administrator often needs to assess the progress a backup routine made before reinitiating. It is a usual requirement to start the backup from scratch. With a remote backup solution, the administrator will receive an email after every backup informing of the files backed up, and any files that could not be backed up, listing the reason for the failure.
Automate backups to run as often as desired with the backup schedulerBackups can be run as frequently as you like with the in built scheduler. This tool allows multiple backup schedules to be set up so your backup routines can be completely customised to your business. Run a full backup at weekends or at the start/end of the month, as well as regular incremental backups during the commercial week.
Special attention to MS Exchange, MSSQL, Lotus Notes, Oracle 8, Locked and in use filesOur software is specifically designed for server environments, and as such it is critical that Mail server systems and database systems can be backed up correctly. With Exchange, Brick level backup can be applied on a per mailbox basis which will allow restoration down to an email/contact/calendar level. Files that may be in use, (e.g. an MS access database open by a user) are still able to be processed and backed up online.
Restore data easily 24 hours a dayDue to the very easy to use interface, restoring files is as easy as navigating to a file on your PC, and our online backup servers are monitored 24 hours a day, to ensure you can access your data whenever you need it.
Accessed from anywhere in the worldIf you are away from your office network, even abroad, you can restore your files to any online machine by logging on to our secure server. Providing you can authenticate correctly, you will be able to download backed up data via any web browser.
