Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS) or Virtual Private Servers (VPS)
VPS (Virtual Private Servers) is the partitioning of high specification machines into numerous 'virtual' servers through the creation of multiple operating system instances or software that is run on the same physical servers.
A virtual private server essentially uses one root operating system (called a hardware node) which the virtualisation software installs multiple copies of the same operating system 'over the top of it' thereby creating virtual nodes. To maximise efficiency and minimise memory and hard disk usage each virtual node uses the same registry and system files. Each VPS platform is totally independent of all the other VPS systems, and furthermore it is also possible to isolate memory, disk space, and CPU processes for each VPS hosting platform .
